Shows I Watch When I’m Sad

Girls Next Door (Prime TV)

My roommates and I have recently discovered Girls Next Door. It follows the life of the former girlfriends of Hugh Hefner and their lives living in the Playboy mansion. Watching them provides me a lot of comfort when I’m sad, mainly because I know they are in a very weird situation so mine can’t be that bad. Imagine snuggling up to Hugh Hefner every night… They throw some absolutely amazing parties and whenever there are little celebrity cameos it makes me giggle. 

Glee (Netflix) 

The reason Glee really gets me when I’m sad is because of the nostalgia associated with it. I grew up watching Glee and whenever I re-watch it I find myself knowing the plot of almost every episode. As well, when I’m sad I can project my sadness and anger on to Rachel because she is simply the worst. The only time Glee is not effective is when you get to the part where Cory Monteith (Finn) dies. 

Below Deck (Hayu)

I absolutely love everything about this show. It makes me want to drop everything and sail the seven seas. It is hard to be sad when you feel as if you are living through them. Luckily, there are many different spin-offs of this show. As well, almost every season there is a different group of crew mates, which makes it entertaining and refreshing every single season. It has definitely given me some travel ideas post-Pandemic. 

Anything HGTV (Prime TV)

Don’t tell Madeleine’s mom, but she forgot to cancel the HGTV extension package on their Prime account. We purchased this mid-quarantine, and it gave me a massive serotonin boost. Something about HGTV brings me back to being sick in elementary school and it’s the only thing on TV. There are so many options, however, my favourites have to be the House Hunters International and Extreme Makeover (aka Move That Bus). Also, after five episodes or so I consider myself a realty expert. For some reason, a $1,000,000 house begins to sound cheap.
